Notes to John by Joan Didion

I am a huge fan of Joan Didion so this is an unexpected book treat. A new book from the much missed Joan Didion.
Notes to John, a journal found in a filing cabinet after Joan Didion’s death, is addressed to her late husband, John Gregory Dunne.

It begins in December 1999, as she records sessions with a psychiatrist. Joan Didion is one of those writers who shapes how I see the world and how I write.

Slouching Towards Bethlehem, Play It As It Lays, The Year of Magical Thinking. Each one brilliant, each one devastating. She’s one of the few writers whose every published word I’ve read.

More about Notes to John here on the Guardian.
